LIEUTENANT GUY MACARTHUR

The parents of the late Lieutenant Guy Macarthur who died of illness in Egypt on Sunday last,  have received the following cable of sympathy among others, from Egypt

Men of the 13th Battalion Transport desire to express their deepest sympathy with you in your bereavement"

In letters received yesterday dated 23rd the late Lieutenant Macarthur stated that he was at the time of writing in Command of the 13th, 14th, 15th & 16th Battalion Transports and the 4th & 5th Field Ambulances at Maadi Camp, which had been inspected by General Monash and Major Herring, who not only complimented but assured him of his promotion to a Captaincy immediately upon a suitable officer being found to take his place as transport officer. He was then apparently in the best of health and spirits for he added "I know you will be pleased to hear of my success and when I get back to Gallipoli, I do so hope I will be able to do something great"

His work in this respect gained him great praise and romotion, and in November 1915 he was given command of the 13th , 14th , 15th and l6th Battalion transports and the 4th and 5th Field Ambulance Corps. His transports were inspected by Generals McGregor and Monash and Major  Herring, who' warmly congratulated him, and soon afterwards he, was ordered to rejoin his old Battalion ("the fighting 13th") as Captain. He wrote in excellent spirits about 3 weeks before he became  ill and died in Egypt, and was looking forward to his return to the fighting line.
