BETTS.— In sad and loving memory of our dear son Private Stephen Charles Betts (Steve) B Company, 24th Battalion, who was killed by sniper at Brodseinde, on 4th October,
1917.
He sleeps beside his comrades,
In a hallowed grave unknown,
But his name is written in letters
of love
In the hearts he left at home.
We pictured you safe returning,
Steve,
We longed to clasp your hand;
But God has postponed that
meeting
Till we meet in a better land.
Could I, his mother, have clasped
his hand,
The son I loved so well;
To kiss his brow when death was
near,
And whisper, dear Steve, fare-
well.
— Inserted by his loving father and mother, brothers and sisters.
