Served during The Great War, resting at Sandgate Cemetery.
65 years ago today, on the 3rd August 1959, Driver Edward James Kelly, 4th Australian Field Artillery Brigade (Reg No-25543), fireman from Fire Station, Burwood, New South Wales and 24 Chippendall Street, Speers Point, N.S.W. (1947) and Wallsend?, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 66. CATHOLIC 1-10. 77.
Born at Sydney, New South Wales on the 8th February 1893? to John and Ellen Kelly; husband of Susan May Kelly nee?, married?, died?, of Tavistock Street, Enfield, New South Wales, Ted enlisted on the 25th November 1915 with the 5th Australian Field Artillery Brigade at Sydney, N.S.W.
Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A67 Orsova on the 29th July 1916.
Commenced return to Australia 15.11.1919.
Ted did not arrive home until the 9th January 1920, being discharged on the 1st April 1920.
Nothing located on Trove regarding enlistment, returning home, etc.
Mr. Kelly’s name has been inscribed on The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.
I have placed poppies at Ted’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
