30 Sep 1918: Honoured Military Medal, For conspicuous courage and devotion to duty near Bullicourt during the operations of 30th September- 2 October 1918. Employed as a runner between Brigade forward station and the attacking Battalion. When several of the Brigade Signal Section linesmen became casualties he volunteered for the work, and although he never had any training in telephone line work he did splendidly and worked continuously for three days and nights maintaining the lines under extremely heavy enemy shell and machine gun fire. The fact that almost continuous telephone communication was maintained throughout the operations between Brigade Headquarters and the Battalion was in a very large measure due to the courage, determination and devotion to duty of this man. Recommend by Brigadier General E. Tivey 8th Australian Infantry Brigade.
27 Oct 1919: Discharged AIF WW1
