Son of Sloper Edwin Upton and Ellen Upton nee Morris of Grose Vale, NSW.
11 July 1916 - enlisted at Wilberforce, NSW, with the 13th Battalion and with the rank of Private.
11 April 1917 - wounded in action. Slight wound to the right foot. Transferred to England aboard HS Autrim on 20 April 1917.
23 August 1917 - wounded in action for the second time. Shrpanel wounds to the left arm and shoulder. Transferred to England abard HS St. Denis
Commenced return to Australia on 1 November 1917 aboard HT Anchises disembarking on 4 January 1918
Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal
2 July 1918 - discharged at the 2nd Military District as medically unfit due to wounding.
During 1927c Oswald married Kathleen Clarice Connaughten in Glebe, NSW
