Add my storyBiography contributed by Stephen Brooks
Pte. Archie Walter Owen was one of the three sons of Harry Robert and Sarah Owen of New Town, Tasmania who all enlisted in the 12th Infantry Battalion.
Archie and his brother Roy both enlisted during October 1916 after they received news that their brother Reginald had been severely wounded in the foot during the Battle of Pozieres.
By quirk of fate, Reg Owen would make it safely home to Tasmania, but his two brothers would not.
On 14 March 1918 Roy Owen was killed in action in Belgium when the Germans raided some outposts of the 12th Battalion trenches.
Archie was subsequently mortally wounded by multiple shrapnel injuries on the 23 July 1918 and died the same day.
Sadly, Reg Owen, the only survivor, would die of illness during 1944, serving in WW2.
