War Service/Promotions: Promoted to Sergeant on 21 May 1916. After arrival in England proceed to 10th Training Battalion. Admitted with adenoids to Fargo Military Hospital, Larkhill, Wiltshire, England, on 8 September 1916. Proceeded overseas to France on 23 November 1916. Promoted to 2nd Lieutenant in the field on 17 January 1917. Promoted to Lieutenant on 1 May 1917 in the field. Transferred to 10th Training Battalion, England from Boulogne, France, on 14 July 1917. In England till 18 October 1917, when proceeded overseas to France from Southampton, Hampshire, England. Marched in at Rouelles, France, to the 3rd Australian Divisional Base Depot on same day. On 29 October 1917 classified by Medical Board to be employed at Base Depot (medically unfit for permanent service in the field). From this date he ceased to be seconded with 10th Training Battalion and is transferred to permanent Supernumerary List (AIF List 259). Taken on Strength at Australian Infantry Base Depot, Le Havre, France, and posted to No 3 Company, 15 December 1917. He was in France until 17 August 1918. Then back in England, before proceeding overseas to France again on 6 November 1918, rejoining Australian Training Base Division on 2 December 1918. Admitted to 2nd Stationary Hospital, Abbeville, France, with defective vision, then transferred to 24th General Hospital, Etaples, France. Discharged to 3 Employ. Base Depot, Etaples, France, on 21 January 1919. Granted leave from 10 April 1919 to 10 October 1919 with pay and subsistence. Reason: Business Organizing, attending Ransomes, Sims, & Jefferies Ltd, Ipswich, England.
Fate: Returned to Australia per HT Nestor, on 1 November 1919. He married Winifred Knivet Henry, 22 February 1922, St John's Church, Devonport, Tas.
