Son of John Thomas Upham and Elizabeth Upham of Medley Street, Gulgong, NSW.
30 October 1916 - enlisted at Sydney with the 19th Battalion and with the rank of Private
Commenced return to Australia on 10 March 1918 aboard HT Orontes disembarking on 13 May 1918
19 November 1917 - admitted to hospital suffering from gas poisoning
10 July 1918 - discharged at the 2nd Military District as medically unfit due to Bronshitis caused by gas poisoning
