Corporal Cecil St Leger Lousada DCM MSM wrote a detailed account of Tom Egan's death at Pozieres which is recorded in his service file. Egan was listed as missing at Pozieres until a Court of enquiry held during October 1917, 14 months later. Tom Egan's brother 4779 John Leo Egan, 8th Battalion AIF was also killed at Pozieres less than two weeks on 18 August 1916. The two brothers were born and raised in Richmond and attended the St Ignatius School in Richmond.
A third brother, 45 Private William Joseph Egan, 10th Machine Gun Company, was returned to Australia 12 November 1916 for ‘family reason’, presumably because his 2 brothers had already lost their lives.
