10 May 1915: Embarked Private, 920, 24th Infantry Battalion, HMAT Euripides, Melbourne
14 May 1917: Involvement AIF WW1, Sapper, 8th Field Company Engineers, A carpenter prior to the war, Henry originally served with D Co. of the 24 Battalion but was transferred to the 8th Field Co. Engineers after rejoining from furlough on 14 May 1917. At this time his service number was changed from 920 to 4461. He served with the 8th F.C.E until he was accidently injured on 6 December 1918, returning to Australia in June 1919.
6 Dec 1918: Wounded AIF WW1, Sapper, 4461, 8th Field Company Engineers, Classified as "accidently injured", Mac's hand was badly lacerated. He was transferred to Paddington Military Hospital on 23 January 1919 to have a finger amputated. He was eventually discharged as unfit for duty after returning to Australia.
