Biography contributed by Geoffrey Gillon

Births Sep 1890   Hillier Davis Oldham Edmonton 3a 271

He was 26 years old.

His younger brother Able Seaman Douglas Ralph Hillier RN, aged 19, was one of the first casualties of the Great War, having been lost on 6th August 1914 in the sinking of H.M.S. "Amphion".While returning from patrolling, she struck a mine off the Thames Estuary and sank with the loss of 132 crewmen killed. She was the first ship of the Royal Navy to be sunk in the First World War.

They were sons of William John George and Mary Emma Hillier, of White House, Bascote Heath, Southham,  Rugby, Warwickshire, England. Both had been born in the  Edmonton area, of North London.

Both are remembered on the UFTON, BASCOTE HEATH and STONEY THORPE WAR MEMORIAL
