Charles William Scott was the son of John McAdam Scott and Agnes Augusta Scott, of 70, Kent St., Ascot Vale, Victoria.
Charles enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 8 January 1916 and embarked with 16th Reinforcements, 5th Battalion on 1 April 1916 per HMAT "Suffolk" (A23). He was transferred to the 58th Battalion. He later joined the No. 1 School of Military Aeronautics for training as a Flying Officer (Pilot). He transferred to the Australian Flying Corps on 2 August 1918 then to 1st Australian Wing, Tetbury on 12 August 1918. His aeroplane was involved in a mid air collision causing his plane to crash, killing him instantly, aged 24 years.
