Henry Alphonsus (Harry) TORPEY was born in 1884 in Limerick, Ireland
His parents were John TORPEY and Catherine NOLAN
He arrived in Melbourne in 1897 with his family on the ship Austral
Henry enlisted on 9th August, 1915 in Melbourne - he was with the 8th Field Artillery Brigade
He was Killed in Action by an exploding shell on 5th June, 1917 at Ploegsteert Wood, Belgium
Henry is buried in the Strand Military Cemetery and also commemorated at the Australian War Memorial - he was awarded the British War Medal & the Victory Medal
