Biography

Walter Ehrenfried ARNOLD was born on 28th June, 1889 in Johnsburg, South Australia - birth was registered in Yalpara

His parents were Friedrich Hermann ARNOLD and Augusta Helena OBST

He enlisted on 17th April, 1916 with the Australian Army - he was with the 32nd Battalion, 8th reinforcements - unit embarked from Adelaide on HMAT Ballarat on 12th August, 1916

Walter was Killed in Action on 29th September, 1918 - no known grave - he is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial in Villers Bretonneux, France and on the Australian War Memorial

He was awarded a Military Medal, British War Medal & the Victory Medal (see AIF Project link on the left for more information on Military Medal)

MILLITARY MEDAL - Awarded for conspicious gallantry and devotion to duty for his actions during an attack near Morlancourt on the night of 28-29 July 1918. Four days later he was promoted to Temporary Corporal.
