Hedley Allen
Hedley was a 22 year old farmer when he enlisted into the AIF on the 01-12-1914, his next of kin was listed as his father Solomon Allen. Hedley was allotted to the 3rd FAB, AIF and served throughout the war with this artillery unit.
On the 15-05-1967 Hedley applied to the Central Army Records Office for a replacement set of medals as his originals had been lost when his house was destroyed by fire at Snug, Tasmania on the 7th February 1967 (Black Tuesday). His WW1 Trio was replaced and posted on the 16-06-1969 to the following address, Remembrance House 17 Stoke Street, Newtown, Hobart, Tasmania. They also stated that it is regretted that it is not possible to replace his Croix De Guerre, however his Belgium Croix De Guerre was replaced and posted to him by the Belgian Minister for Foreign affairs in Brussels.
At this time Hedley also applied and was issued with the ANZAC Commemorative Medallion and ANZAC Lapel Badge.
