Served and suffered during The Great War, resting peacefully at Sandgate Cemetery.

73 years ago today, on the Monday morning of the 16th February 1948, Private Frank Urwin Wilson, also known as Wass, 56th Battalion (Reg No-3198), miner from 76 Laman Street, Cooks Hill, New South Wales, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 64. METHODIST 4-19. 28.

Born at Lithgow, New South Wales on the 22nd April 1883 to Francis and Margaret Ann Wilson (Moore) of Thornton, N.S.W., Wass enlisted October 1916 at Rutherford, N.S.W.

Wounded in action - 26.9.1917 (GSW left thigh, mild), 2.9.1918 (SW left buttock, right leg), Frank was invalided home January 1919, being discharged medically unfit on the 28th February 1919.

I have not located Mr Wilson’s name inscribed on any known War Memorial or Roll of Honour.

I have placed poppies on Frank’s white marble Commonwealth War Graves headstone in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King and Country.

Service record states Died after Discharge 14/2/1948.
