"SERGEANT T. COCKETT, D.C.M.
Miss Emily Hakendoff, of Edmund-avenue, Unley, has received news that Sergeant T. Cockett has been awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal. He is the only son of the late Mrs. J. Cockett, of Western Australia, and enlisted in Adelaide on July 6, 1915. He is 22 years of age. The action for which he received the distinction took place on July 10. Sergeant Cockett became the sole survivor of a gun's crew. He continued firing alone, and only ceased when his gun sustained a direct hit from an enemy shell." - from the Adelaide Chronicle 04 Nov 1916 (nla.gov.au)
