31 Oct 1917: Honoured Military Medal, Citation reads: For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty East of Ypres on 20th September, 1917. Private Usher acted as Company runner and carried messages under very heavy shell fire. He was buried by a shell and though hurt internally, carried on and delivered his message and remained at duty until his Company was relieved. Son of Samuel Usher and Annie Usher nee Hicks of Mitchell Street, St Kilda, Victoria. Brother of Gordon Rupert User who returned to Australia on 7 May 1919 having served with the 59th Battalion

Commenced return to Australia on 6 July 1919 aboard HT Boorara disembarking on 26 August 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney.
