"...2nd Lieutenant Charles Robert Windeyer, 49th Battalion. Formerly a school teacher, Charles Windeyer enlisted as a Private (number 363) on 24 September 1914 and he embarked from Sydney, NSW, with C Squadron, 6th Australian Light Horse Regiment aboard HMAT Suevic (A29) on 21 December 1914. He returned sick to Australia in 1915 and after his recovery he re embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Wandilla (A62) on 3 February 1916, for duty in Egypt. He later served with the 49th Battalion in France and Belgium on the Western Front where he was commissioned in August 1917. 2nd Lt Windeyer was killed in action at Passchendaele during the third battle of Ypres on 12 October 1917.
