Served and suffered during The Great War, died tragically, resting at Sandgate Cemetery.

72 years ago today, on the Tuesday afternoon of the 21st April 1953, Private Edward Bliss Jolly, referred to as Ted or Eddy or Eddie, 33rd Battalion (Reg No-453), labourer from Henry Street, Quirindi, New South Wales and 25 Barton Street, Mayfield, N.S.W., father of 3?, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 56. METHODIST 4-23. 63.

Born at Quirindi, New South Wales on the 14th September 1896 to Edward Bliss Snr, died 10.12.1934, Henry Street, Quirindi, N.S.W., age 80, and Esther Mary Jolly nee Nicholl, died 7.12.1934, Henry Street, Quirindi, N.S.W., age 76, mother of 5?; husband of Violet May Jolly nee Mettam, married 1925, Quirindi, N.S.W., died 7.9.1970, Raymond Terrace, N.S.W., age 79, 17 years a widow, sleeping here, Eddy enlisted on the 4th January 1916 at Armidale, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A74 Marathon on the 4th May 1916.

Admitted to hospital 8.6.1918 (influenza).

Wounded in action - 17.7.1917 (GSW cheek & breast, severe, Messines, Belgium), 30.8.1918 (gassed, near Hindleg Wood near Curlu, France), 29.9.1918 (GSW hand, near Bony, France).

Invalided to England 23.7.1917 (GSW chest).

Granted furlough from 27.8.1917 to 10.9.1917.

Commenced return to Australia 11.5.1919.

Eddy returned home on the 28th June 1919, being discharged on the 12th August 1919.

Mr. Jolly’s name has been inscribed on the Quirindi and Werris Creek Municipal District First World War Roll of Honor.

I have placed poppies at Eddy’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.

Not officially commemorated.
