Cyril's correct middle name is "Phillips". He was named after his mother's family name.
When in France he was wounded severely in his right arm on 15 May 1917 and admitted to London War Hospital on 20 May 1917. He returned to Australia at the end of 1917 and was discharged in Perth, Western Australia on 21 June 1918. He was awarded the 1914/15 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
