John Wesley COSSOM was born on 2nd July, 1896 in Huxbridge, Tasmania

His parents were John COSSOM & Harriet LEONARD

He enlisted in Claremont, Tasmania on 15th January, 1916 & embarked with the 12th Infantry Battalion, 22nd Reinforcements on 25th October, 1916 on the ship HMAT Ulysses

John was Killed in Action in Belgium on 7th October, 1917 - his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial & the Menin Gate Memorial in Ypres

His brother Oscar William COSSOM (SN 1031) also served in WW1 in the 12th Infantry Battalion & returned to Australia
