Biography contributed by John Oakes

Henry MEGGISON (Service Number 4367) was born in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, on 28th July 1886.  He was first employed as a temporary labourer by the NSW Government Railways Existing Lines Branch at Emu Plains in August 1912. He resigned on 4th October.  He was re-employed on 14th October and resigned again in February 1913.  In July 1914 he joined the Tramways Permanent Way Branch, remaining with them until released from duty to enlist in the AIF at Holdsworthy in September 1915.

In Egypt in February 1916, he was allotted to and joined the 2nd Battalion, and sent with them to France in March.

On 18th June 1916 he was killed in action. He was buried at ‘Y’ Farm Military Cemetery, Bois Grenier, 4000 yards S of Armentières.

Application was made for a war pension for his mother in Middlesbrough, but it was rejected, as she had not been dependant on him for 12 months prior to his enlistment.
