Alfred a fisherman from Port Macquarie NSW joined the AIF 18th reinforcements at kempsey NSW And Embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A41 BAKARA on 4 September 1918 and arrived in London 14 November 1918 just missed the war by three days. In England he transferred to 3rd Infantry Battalion and sent to France January 1919 spent time there and returned to London and then shipped back to Australia on HT SUEVIC arrived Melbourne 10 September 1919 and discharged 11 September 1919

 

Alfred came from a large family of eight children four sisters and thee other brothers, His sister Lucy May Brien married Henry Searle and had two children Dorothy Searle Married Gerald Atkins they have four children

 

Alfred also enlisted in the Australian Army Volunteer Defence Corps during WW2 16 September 1942 and was discharged 14 October 1942 Volunteer Defence Corps
