Darcy Lyle FERNANCE was born at St Albans near the Hawkesbury River in New South Wales in 1895

His parents were James David FERNANCE & Sarah Jane LANIGAN who married on 3rd April, 1876 at the MacDonald River, NSW

He enlisted in Sydney on 8th October, 1916 as a Private & became a Gunner two days later - he embarked from Sydney with the 5th Field Artillery Brigade, 13th Reinforcements on the RMS Osterley on 10th February, 1917 - he transferred to the 4th Field Artillery Brigade (10th Battery) on 13th August, 1917

Darcy was Killed in Action in Belgium on 29th September, 1917 during the 3rd Battle of Passchendale

He is buried in the Keninghelst New Military Cemetery, Plot IV, Row D, Grave 23

Inscription:

His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial & the Mosman War Memorial
