12 Dec 1917: Honoured Military Medal, Third Ypres, For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in company with 22 Private William Edward Bruderlin (KIA 20.09.1917), when acting as stretcher bearers on the night of 16 September 1917, east of Ypres, when their CO and six others had been killed and a great number wounded, under the heaviest barrage, they continually dressed and carried wounded to the Advanced Dressing Station until the trench had been cleared.
