His younger brother, 308 Cpl. John Dill Reid also of the 13th Battalion was killed in action at Gallipoli on the 26 April 1915, aged 21.

Sydney Morning Herald, 22 August 1917. "Mr. John Reid, of East Hills, has received a cable message stating that his youngest son, Private Marcus Dill Reid, has been killed in France by shell fire. An elder brother, Corporal John Dill Reid, took part in the landing at Gallipoli, and was killed at Quinn’s Post. The latest news of another brother, Private William Smith Reid, is that he is still in hospital."
