"...Second Lieutenant John (Jack) Ingram, 15th Battalion, from Gympie, Queensland... enlisted on 15 December 1914 at the age of 26 and embarked for overseas as 1336A Private John Ingram, on 13 February 1915 aboard HMAT Seang Bee. He was wounded while fighting at Gallipoli, recovered to go on to be promoted to 2/Lt and was wounded again in fighting on the Western Front in October 1916. He was captured at Riencourt, France, on 11 April 1917 and held as a POW in Karlsruhe for six months and at a camp in Freiburg in Baden, Germany, for 14 months. In September 1917, he sent this postcard from the POW camp at Karlsruhe, and on the back wrote: "Dear Miss Chomley, Thanks very much for your letter of 30 August 17. Our parcels for this month have be[en] slow coming to hand but they are now starting to arrive with the exception of Capt Dunworths. The Australian officers in Camp are Capt Dunworth, Capt Cull, Capt Hoad, Lt MacQuiggan, 2/Lt Stones, 2/Lt Ferguson, 2/Lt Ingram. Our invalids have not started for England yet but they expect to get away shortly. Please will you send me out an English Grammar and dictionary. Everyone sends you their best respects and sincere thanks Believe me. Yours sincerely Jack Ingram." 2/Lt Ingram was repatriated to England on 6 December 1918 and arrived back in Australia on 30 April 1919 as a Captain..." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)
