Pte 470 Daniel Maye A.I.F 26th Battalion was from Mayes Hill in North Tumbulgum NSW 2484. He enlisted on 10th April 1915. Daniel was reported missing in action, in field on 5th October 1917 then later in dated 15th April 1918, he was reported killed in action on the previously missing in action date. His mother had a memorial site placed where his brother and father are both buried as they passed within a few years of Daniel, this is also where she is buried at the historical North Tumbulgum cemetery. During his time in the A.I.F, he was in and out of hospital being ill or injured, including a gunshot wound and a fractured arm.
