Son of Gerald Thomas and Katie Georgine Baker, of "Quat Quatta," Glen Eira Rd., Elstermouth, Victoria, Australia.

Gerald entered the Bank of NSW on 11th April 1909 joining the branch at Flinders Street West.  In December 1911 he was transferred to Kyneton, and then to Ballarat a year later.  He went on to Albury in 1913 and became a teller at that branch in April 1914.

Enlisting on 10th December 1915, he had only been in Egypt a few months when he succumbed to heat stoke and died at Tel-al-Kebir 16 May 1916.
