Biography contributed by Marley Wiltshire

Edgar Albert Wiltshire was born on an unknown date in London, 1893. Son of Robert and Bertha Harriet Wiltshire, Brother of Eustace Reginald Wiltshire and Winifred Victoria Wiltshire. Also, brother of Cecil Ewart Wiltshire and Sydney Robert Wiltshire, both of whom served in the war but were discharged for medical reasons.

On 11 Sep 1914, he enlisted into the Australian army at Black Boy Hill in Western Australia. Before his enlistment into the army conflicting sources state he was either a jeweller or a labourer. He was 5’6 with an average built, he sported dark hair and dark eyes. On 22 Dec 1914 he was placed into the 16th Infantry Battalion set for Gallipoli as a private. On the same day, his journey began, and he embarked from Melbourne to Egypt to start training for the front lines.

He trained in Egypt with his troops for the following few months before landing on Gallipoli. Unforunately, on 2 May he was wounded in the legs and feet. Although evacuated to Alexandria in Egypt, he died from his wounds on 6 May.

After his death his mother received his Star Medal representing his service.
