A Forgotten Digger of The Great War and Sandgate Cemetery.
80 years ago today, on the Wednesday afternoon of the 7th February 1940, Private Thomas Bell, 30th Battalion, wheeler from Brunker Road, Adamstown, New South Wales and Bellbird Street, Pelaw Main, N.S.W., father of one, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 47. ANGLICAN 1-42. 89.

Born at Adamstown, New South Wales on the 6th March 1892 to John and Elizabeth Ann Bell; husband of ? Bell (married?, died?), Thomas enlisted September 1915 at Newcastle, N.S.W., and returned home March 1919, sustaining no injuries during his service.

His name has been inscribed on the Adamstown Citizens' Memorial. (unveiled on the 17th December 1921).

Mr Bell collapsed and died on the 5th February 1940 while holidaying at Swansea, N.S.W.

I placed a wooden cross adorned with poppies on the gravesite September 2016, taken a photo of the grave and uploaded the photo onto the Northern Cemetery website as a permanent record of his service.
