The Minmi Roll of Honour has 79 names inscribed of those who returned home from The Great War.

The 26th name inscribed is Private David Pryor.

On the 8th August 1957, the funeral for Private David Pryor, referred to as Dave, 45th Battalion (Reg No- 1671A), wheeler from Purple Hill, Minmi, New South Wales and Greta, N.S.W., was held at the Newcastle Memorial Park, N.S.W., age 61 years, 7 months. Ashes interred - R S W 2 C/20, date unknown.

Born at Minmi, New South Wales on the 9th January 1896 to Josiah, died 27.1.1926, Branxton Street, Greta, N.S.W., age 64, buried at Greta Cemetery, N.S.W., Presbyterian, Section U, Lot 32, from Minmi and "Appin", Park Street, Greta, N.S.W. (1917), and Sale Street, Greta, N.S.W. (1919), and Sarah Ann Pryor nee Hammonds, died 27.12.1954, Cessnock, N.S.W., age 84, mother of 2 sons, 4 daughters, sleeping at Greta Cemetery, N.S.W., Presbyterian, Section U, Lot 33, from 33 Anstey Street, Cessnock, N.S.W.; husband of Mary Josephine Pryor nee Blackwell, married 1924, Greta, N.S.W., died 7.10.1970, age 73, sleeping at Greta Cemetery, N.S.W.

Dave enlisted on the 29th January 1916 with the 34th Battalion, age 20 years, at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A20 Hororata on the 2nd May 1916.

Disembarked Plymouth, England 23.6.1916.

Proceeded O/Seas to France from Southampton, England 14.10.1916.

Admitted to hospital 15.2.1917 (septic heel), 11.4.1918 (scalded right foot, slight).

Transferred to 45th Battalion 5.3.1917.

Re-allotted Reg No-1671A 24.1.1918.

Wounded in action - 10.8.1918 (GSW left or right forearm).

Invalided to England 23.8.1918.

Commenced return to Australia 3.5.1919.

Dave arrived home invalided on the 22nd June 1919, being discharged on the 6th August 1919.

Not officially commemorated.

I would like to see poppies placed at Dave’s plaque in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
