Robert Simpson Goudy was born in Rickamore, Antrim, Ireland on the 6.7.1873. He married Sara Louisa Macmillan on the 27th of December 1898 in Scots Church, Fremantle. They had four children. In 1910 and 1911, he was living in Cue and working as the Town Clerk when he was appointed Assistant Returning Officer for Elections in the Coolgardie District. In 1912, however, he found himself facing bankruptcy. He owned a mortgaged house and land in Fremantle but owed a lot of money to many people after having lost about £400 in a land transaction at Bibra Lake. In 1916 he was a billiard Room keeper. Robert enlisted at Perth on the 26.6.17 aged 43 years 11 months. He was a Telegraphist and Presbyterian and gave his postal address as Pemberton. Sara Louisa Goudy, as next of kin, was living in West Leederville. Robert was described as being 5 feet 7¼ inches tall, with a chest measurement of 35-37½ inches with fresh complexion, brown hazel eyes, sightly grey hair. Initially a Private with the service number 2419, he was appointed to the 3rd Divisional Signal Company. At the AIF Signal School in Seymour, he was appointed Lance Corporal on the 12.11.17, corporal from 12.12.17, then acting Sergeant from 28.2.18. Robert embarked from Melbourne on 28.2.1918 on HMAT Nestor A71, arriving in Liverpool on 20.4.18. In England during April 1918, his rank changed from V/O Cpl to V/O Sgt, EDP Cpl and Sapper. He was sent to the 3 Divisional Signal Company in France on 5.6.18. On 17.12.18 he was transferred to AHQ in London and on 23.1.19, promoted to T/Cpl, then T/Sgt. On the 23/2/20 he was transferred to the Australian Graves Services in Australia House, London. He returned to Australia on the 26.6.20 on the Narkunda. He disembarked on 15.8.1920 and was discharged on the 23.9.20. In 1925, he was Postmaster at Nungarin, WA when his war service medals were dispatched there. Robert died in Mt Lawley on the 10.3.1941, aged 68, and was interred in Karrakatta Cemetery, Presbyterian IA Grave 0646. His name was a later addition to the board. Sara Louisa died on the August 17 1943 and was buried in Karrakatta Presbyterian DA Grave 0178.
