Let us remember a Fallen Soldier of The Great War memorialised at Mimi Cemetery, N.S.W.

On the 31st March 1918, Private Thomas Ramsay, referred to as Squatter, 9th Australian Light Trench Mortar Battery, (Reg No-1227), miner (Aberdare Colliery), from Cumberland Street, Cessnock, New South Wales, Died of Wounds at Ambulance Train No. 33, Rouen, France, age 32.

No Australian Red Cross Wounded and Missing File.

Born at Minmi Coalfield, New South Wales on the 17th March 1885 to James (died 20.5.1926, Wallsend, N.S.W., age 85, buried at Wallsend Cemetery, N.S.W., not listed on Find a Grave), from Minmi, N.S.W. and King Street, Cessnock, N.S.W. (1918) and Allandale Road, Cessnock, N.S.W., and Agnes Ramsay (died 27.6.1914, Minmi, N.S.W., age 68, no funeral notice located, sleeping at Left Hand Side, Section 09, Plot 038), from Minmi, N.S.W.

Squatter enlisted on the 17th January 1916 with the 34th Battalion, age 30 years 10 months, at West Maitland, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A20 Hororata on the 2nd May 1916.

Disembarked Plymouth, England 23.6.1916.

Taken on Strength 9th Australian Light Trench Mortar Battery 15.11.1916.

Proceeded O/Seas to France from Southampton, England 21.11.1916.

Admitted to 9th Australian Field Ambulance 7.12.1916 (pleurisy), 8.12.1917 (scabies).

Granted furlough in England from 18.8.1917 to 1.9.1917.

Wounded in action - 25.7.1917 (GSW head & right cheek, slight), 30.3.1918 (enemy artillery shell fragment to base of the skull, severe, village of Cachy, east of Amiens).

Place of Association - Cessnock, New South Wales, Australia.

Mr. Ramsay's name has been inscribed on the Minmi Roll of Honour, Minmi St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Roll of Honour, Cessnock War Memorial and the Book of Gold.

I have placed poppies at the Ramsay memorialised gravesite, Minmi Cemetery, in remembrance of the service and supreme sacrifice of Squatter for God, King & Country. Left Hand Side, Section 09, Plot 038.
