Son of George and Elizabeth SADLER of Glenormiston North, Victoria.
On Wednesday Mr. George Sadler, of Glenormiston, was officially informed of the sad fact that his eldest son, Lance-Corporal John W. Sadler, had been killed in action in France on May 4th. Lance-Corporal Sadler, who was 26 years of age, enlisted in March, 1915. He served in Gallipoli, and was invalided home, but returned to active service as soon as he had recovered his health, and in July last he went to France where he rejoined his old battalion, the 24th. The late Corporal Sadler was an expert cheese-maker. At the Melbourne Show he took the championship of Australia for cheese, several years in succession, and he also secured awards at Sydney and at Islington (Eng.) His father on Friday last received from him a letter dated March 21. He mentioned that they had just taken Bapaume after nine days and nights solid going, up to their knees in mud and added that he had received special mention for good work in the lines during the action which resulted in the fall of Bapaume. A younger brother, Pte. E. J. Sadler, was killed in action on January 27 of this year.
