On 23 August 1918 William married Ada Annie Miles in St. John the Baptist Churc, Buckland Hill, Epping, Essex, England. Rector F.W. Morris Woodward officiated.

Commenced return to Australia on 18 October 1919 aboard HT Benalla disembarking on 29 November 1919
