Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of Alfred James and Lilian Onley, of Flynn, Gippsland, Victoria, Australia.

THY WILL BE DONE

We regret to chronicle the fact that another of our brave men; Private E. R. Onley, sixth son of Mr and Mrs Onley, of Flynn, has made the supreme sacrifice for King and country.  Word was received by the parents of deceased last week, and out of sympathy a dance that was to have been held at Upper Flynn's Creek Hall was post-poned. The late  Private  Onley was 23 years of age, and had seen a good deal of active service. He was a fine manly young fellow, and very popular with all who knew him. The sympathy of all will be  extended to Mr and Mrs Onley and family.

THE SUPREME SACRIFICE.
TWO DISTRICT SOLDIERS FALL.
PRIVATE E. R. ONLEY.
Official intimation has been received of the death on active service of Private E; R. (Roy) Onley, sixth son of Mr Alfred J. Onley, Flynn. Private Onley was 23 years of age, and is  one of the four members of the family who have responded to the call of the Empire, two other brothers, Fred and Clyde, being in the firing line, while a third one (Walter) is  expected to return home shortly on account of illness. The parents and family can therefore justly claim to have done their share in the great struggle for liberty and freedom. Private Roy Onley had seen about three years active service, and died of wounds at a casualty clearing station in France on 9th August. He was well known throughout the district, and by his many excellent qualities commanded the respect and esteem of a large circle of friends, to whom the news of his death came as a severe shock. He was a good  allround sport, and gave particular attention to football, being a prominent player in district teams. The parents have the sympathy of the whole community in the loss of a noble  son and one who proved his true worth by laying down his life for King and country. Much sympathy also goes out to the bereaved family.

ONLEY.—Officialy reported died of wounds 61st Casualty Clearing Station, France, on the 9th August, 1918, Private E. R. Onley, sixth son of Alfred James and Lilian Onley, of Flynn,  Gippsland, aged 23 years.
