Elliot Frank Playford was born at Norton Summit on 12 October 1876. He was the son of Thomas Playford and Mary Jane Kinsman, one of 6 boys and 5 girls. During his military career he graduated to Major Elliot Frank Playford OBE. He enlisted in 1916 and served in France and England. He was Camp Commandant of the Westham Camp for the 43rd Battalion. As a civil servant he was a draughtsman with the Registrar General Department in Adelaide and accepted a position as draughtsman in the Lands Department in Northern Territory in Palmerston. He married Ethel Playford and had three children and they lived on Osmond Terrace at Norwood.
