"SUNNERS, Vernon Lindsay. Director of General Motors Holden LTD since 1934: son of the late Edward J. and Mary Sunners, Brisbane. Born 1 December 1893 in Maryborough, Queensland, educated South Brisbane Street School, served AIF, World War 1 with commissioned rank, Field Artillery; on return to Australia held executive positions in timber industry in Queensland until 1926, then joined General Motors as Sales Manager for Queensland, Sales Manager for New South Wales in 1930 and transfered to Melbourne as General Sales Manager for Australia in 1932. Married Hilda M. Blake, Sydney, 1 son and 1 daughter. Recreations: golf and tennis. Clubs: Navy, Army and Air Force, Commercial Travellers (Melb), Tattersall's (Syd). "Obituary

Mr. Vernon L. Sunners, a former director of General Motors Holden Ltd, and a director of several Melbourne companies, collapsed and died at his home in South Yarra yesterday. He was 54. Born in Maryborough, Queensland. Mr Sunners served as an officer in the First World War. He held senior executive positions with General Motors Holden Ltd in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria from 1926 until resigned as director of sales two years ago. He is survived by a widow, a son and a daughter. The funeral which will be private, will take place at Springvale Crematorium, this afternoon." - from the Melbourne Argus 04 Nov 1949 (nla.gov.au)
