Son of George D. Cooper and Alice Cooper of Balo Street, Moree, NSW

Served as an apprentice saddle maker with Alex McDougall of Boonie Street, Moree, NSW

Rufus enlisted in Queensland on declartation of war, and served at Rabaul and then returned to Australia and was discharged.  He then re-enlisted with the AIF and served in France and Belgium, was reported missing and later reported as killed in action at Passchedaele on October 12,1917
