John Wellington GRAPES was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1882
His parents were John GRAPES & Margaret Mary WHITE
He married Isabella Gibson WHITEFIELD in Sydney in 1914 - two known children, John & Mary
He enlisted on 23rd November, 1915 and embarked from Sydney on 17th November, 1916 on the ship Port Napier with the 8th Infantry Battalion 22nd reinforcements
John was injured accidentally and died on 24th July, 1917 and is buried in the Aveluy Communal Cemetery Extension
His headstone reads:
"IN LOVING MEMORY OF MY DARLING HUSBAND AND OUR FATHER"

He had previously served during the Boer War before he arrived in Australia
