George Dunn was the son of James Leonard Dunn and Elizabeth Dunn, of Merimbula, New South Wales.
His younger brother, 6538 Pte. Helier Leslie Cecil Dunn 1st Australian Machine Gun Battalion later died of wounds in France on 15 November 1917, aged 23.
George proceeded to join the 6th Light Horse Regiment on Gallipoli, 15 May 1915. He fell sick less than a fortnight later and was transferred to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 28 May 1915 and evacuated to Mudros the same day. He died of pneumonia aboard the Hospital Ship 'Franconia' at Lemnos Island, 3 June 1915 was buried on Lemnos Island the next day.
