Mac joined the RSL on the wharf when he returned to Australia and maintained a life long active interest in the welfare of returned servicemen and women and their dependants. He was on the original committee for the formation of the Narrabeen War Service Homes, on the editorial committee of "Reveille", on the Legacy Committee and on the first Committee of Management of Anzac House.
He was President of the Parramatta RSL for some years and served on many other committees at RSL State Headquarters. He was a State Councillor for 5 years then State Vice President and for a short time State President.
In recognition of his services to the RSL he was made a life member but he was truly honoured when he was awarded The RSL Meritorious Award in 1987 when he was 91.
He was my wonderful father.
After all the horrors of being a young stretcher bearer he brought love and kindness to all who knew him.
