21 Oct 1917: Honoured Military Medal, Citation reads: The gallant conduct and devotion to duty during the fighting near Zonnebeke on 26th September 1917. Under extremely heavy fire he continuously dressed and carried wounded over very marshy and difficulty ground. He displayed absolute disregard of self and his conduct, did much to inspire confidence in others. Son of Robert Cooper and Mary Cooper nee Sloss of Hexham, Victoria.

Brother of Robert Cooper who killed in action on 9 October 1917 while seerving with the 24th Battalion and has no known grave. His name appears on Menin Gate, Ypres also brother of John Sloss Cooper and William Cooper both of Hexham

Commenced return to Australia on 12 May 1919 aboard HT Port Napier disembarking on 2 July 1919
