Trooper Archibald Badenoch

1417 Trooper Archibald Badenoch of Port MacDonnell, South Australia was a Boer War veteran having served with the New Zearland forces and had been employed as a labourer when he enlisted for War Service on the 7th of September 1915.
Allocated to reinforcements for the 11th Light Horse Regiment 1st AIF, Archibald embarked for Egypt and further training on the 18th of Novemeber. and following his arrival he was transferred over to the 9th Light Horse on the 12th of Janurary 1916. By the 2nd of Feburary 1917 Archibald was taken on strength with the 2nd Company of the Imperial Camel Corps. Aside bouts of sickness whilst on duty, Archibald's service in the desert campaigning against the Turkish forces was continuous.
Following the disbandment of the ICC, Archibald was taken on strength with the 14th Light Horse at the start of July 1918 . On the 10th of September Archibald was hospitalised and diagnosed as suffering debility due to active service. Archibald returned to Australia as an invaild on the 19th of Feburary 1919. Having arrived back in South Australia Archibald was formally discharged from the 1st AIF on the 16th of June 1919.
Archibald died of injuries incurred during a train accident on the 18th of April 1927 at the age of 49. Following his untimley death Archibald was formally interred within West Terrace Cemetery, South Australia.

Archibald Badenoch was born on the 18th of April 1878, in Port MacDonnell, South Australia. He was raised in a Christian house hold and worked as a laborer. At the age of 36 he enlisted into the A.I.F. on the 9th September 1915.
Archibald completed training in Adelaide and then embarked on the HMAT Geelong arriving in Eygpt where he served in the Middle East with the 11th Light Horse. He was detached to the No 2 Company Imperial Camel Corp in February 1917. Several times during 1917 Badenoch was in trouble for drunkeness and being AWL. In September 1918 he was admitted to hospital sick and then was granted leave for 14 days. He agian found himself in trouble for failing to comply with an order and was admished.
He left Suez for Australia on the ship Lancashire 19th February 1919 and spent time in the ship's hospital. He arrived back in Adelaide and was discharged 16th June 1919.
Archibald died at the age of 49 on the 20th of April 1927. He was put to rest in the West Terrace Cemetery location: Light Oval, Row 9S, Aspect W, Site Number 16.
