16 April 1916 - To hospital with Mumps
Eyewitnesses stated that he was killed while attending another fallen soldier as they advanced on a machine gun post at about 3.30am. Edwin was buried where he fell and no cross was erected

4642 Corporal Edwin Charles Skinner, 58th Battalion was from Baringhup, Victoria. A 25 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 28 July 1915, he embarked for overseas as a Private with the 14th Reinforcements of the 5th Battalion from Melbourne on 28 December 1916 aboard HMAT Themistocles.
While serving on the Western Front, he was transferred to the 58th Btn and promoted to Corporal on 20 June 1917. He was killed in action on 5 July 1918 near Ville-sur-Ancre, France and is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France.
