From 52nd Battalion AIF
Pte Thomas CLUGSTON enlisted on 30 September 1916 and his mother recorded that he entered camp on his 22nd birthday, 30 October 1916. He embarked with the 9th Reinforcements to the 52nd Bn in January 1917 and disembarked at Devonport on 12 April. He marched into Codford Camp and reported sick with the mumps in June. Proceeded to France on 6 August and taken on strength with the 52nd on the 24th of August. He was killed at Broodseinde Ridge; his mother wrote that ‘…he was a scout on the front line’.
