JENNISON, Joseph William (1899-1965)
Joseph Jennison was near Lake Boga, Victoria, on 3 July 1899, the son of John William Jennison and Annie nee Ling. After attending Swanston St State School in Geelong he was enrolled at Geelong College as a day student on 7 February 1913. At enrolment his address was 44 Garden Street, Geelong. He left in December 1913 (Form VC) though he appears twice in the Valette listings in December 1913 and May 1914.
He enlisted (No 3942) as a Private in the AIF on 26 October 1917, but was granted leave in order to assist with the harvest on his family farm at Mathoura, NSW. He embarked for Egypt on RMS Ormonde on 7 March 1918, serving through the final campaigns of the war with the 4th Australian Light Horse (31st Reinforcement Group). Jennison returned to Australia, embarking on 15 June 1919 on HMT Essex.
Joseph died at Echuca on 20 June 1965.
During World War II, his cousin, Flight Officer Alexander Glenn Jennison (1911-1943), who also attended Geelong College, was killed in action over the Atlantic Ocean on 21st September 1943, while flying with 10 (Sunderland) Squadron, RAAF.
