Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

William was the son of Mabel Grace Dyson (b1874 in Perth, WA) and George Deverell Robinson (b1863 in Melbourne, Victoria). Mabel - sixteen years of age when she had William - travelled to Melbourne to give birth and her son William was adopted and raised by her brother and his wife. The Dyson family was notorious in Perth . George was a Surveyor in Guildford, WA.

William worked as an iron Moulder in Perth WA and enlisted in the AIF in January 1916 (Private; Service No:78). He stated he had previously served four years with 11th Light Horse Regiment Perth, and served with 53rd and 36th Infantry Battalions. William was listed as a Deserter (NSW Australia Police Gazettes, 31 July 1918; p347) and as a result was Discharged on 21 July 1920, forfeiting his Pension and War Medals.

In 1919 William was working in Sydney NSW as a Hospital Attendant and married Muriel Esther Bernaldo (b1893 in Creswick, Victoria) in 1920. The marriage was short-lived and Muriel remarried. Records indicate that both William and Muriel used aliases - Muriel using 'Clarke' and William using the name of Muriel's second husband 'Harmer'. William had returned to Perth WA by 1924 when he received a prison sentence for theft.

William worked as a Labourer and Iron Worker and when he died in 1967, his Death Certificate stated that his parents' names were unknown and that he had no known relatives.
